about
The song is about the critical examination of the understanding of masculinity that society gives to adolescent men and that has long been told us to be desirable. For years we had to prove our masculinity, or what we had to believe to be it, to ourselves and to others in order not to fall through the raster. Peer pressure, offensive statements and injurious behaviour, competition, drug use etc. are all factors that have a negative impact on our lives. Aggres-siveness and hardness as a learned virtue, never showing weakness or honest feelings. Lov-ing or tender contact, perhaps even among and with each other? Unthinkable. Probably all Cis-men have learned toxic masculinity to a certain extent and carry corresponding deficien-cies with them, which they would never have noticed as such, because it is typical and some-how wanted - but therefore not less critical. Many men have problems in their connection to their own bodies and in recognizing their own limits and borders as well as those of others. We have learned that any negative emotions must be suppressed, processed with ourselves and finally channelled as anger, because that is a permitted emotion. And this anger can be chan-nelled in different ways, but in the rarest cases it comes to a good end. To be critical of what we are told is "normal" is never easy - but necessary. Masculinity is in danger? That's good.
lyrics
we hide our fears 'cause everyone does
we hide our tears, yeah boys, i'm talking about us
they never tell you what you gotta do with all the feelings inside you except anger
let them flow, force yourself, it won't change itself
the disappointment, the overtaxing, the sadness, the uncertainty
stop turning all to rage, stop salting your wounds
and why do you really drink and blaze? i guess you compensate
can't talk about what's really cracking you but strung out everything's ok
they always told us to be strong but never what we
gotta do with all the feelings inside us except anger
let them flow, force yourself, it won't change itself
the disappointment, the overtaxing, the sadness, the uncertainty
stop turning all to rage, stop salting your wounds
[stop salting your wounds before you get inedible]
question your anger!
